Raj Kundra moves Bombay High Court to quash PMLA cognizance, ED summons in Bitcoin case Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, has moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the cognizance order and summons issued to him by a special PMLA court in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Bitcoin‑linked money laundering case [Ripusudan Raj Kundra v. The petition came up before Justice Ashwin Bhobe on Tuesday when the ED sought time to take instructions. The Court acceded to the request and adjourned the case to August 6 for further hearing. The case arose from a 2019 prosecution complaint filed by the ED against directors of Variable Tech Pte Ltd, Gainbitcoin.com promoter Amit Bhardwaj and others, in which the special court had taken cognizance in February 2024. A further supplementary complaint was filed in September 2025 by which Kundra was added as an accused. According to ED, Kundra received 285 Bitcoins—valued at around ₹150.47 crore—from Bhardwaj between July and August 2017, and refused to disclose wallet details or surrender the Bitcoins. The allegations also include a low‑value sale transaction with Shetty in respect of their Juhu “Ocean View” flats to allegedly disguise the origin of funds. On January 5, the special PMLA court took cognizance of a supplementary prosecution complaint of September 2025 and initiated proceedings against Kundra.

Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for murdering wife for dowry A Principal District and Sessions Court in Koppal has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹30,000 after finding him guilty of murdering his wife following prolonged dowry harassment. Principal District and Sessions judge Chandrashekhar C. delivered the judgment on July 25, convicting Manjunath Purthageri of Balutagi village in Yelburga taluk for the murder of his wife, Nirmala alias Ningamma. According to the prosecution, Nirmala married Manjunath on March 6, 2018. Her family had reportedly given 40 gms of gold, ₹31,000 in cash and household articles worth ₹60,000 at the time of the marriage. Although the couple lived peacefully for the first four months, Manjunath allegedly began demanding an additional 50 gms of gold as dowry and subjected his wife to physical and mental cruelty. He allegedly threatened to kill her and remarry if the demand was not met. Despite repeated attempts by Nirmala’s family members and village elders to counsel him, the accused allegedly continued to harass her. On the morning of October 29, 2021, while no one else was present in the house, he allegedly assaulted Nirmala with two sickles following a quarrel, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck and right hand.

ICC Arbitration Rules 2026: A new era of faster and efficient arbitration

ICC Arbitration Rules 2026: A new era of faster and efficient arbitration The ICC Arbitration Rules, 2026 entered into force on June 1, 2026. The 2026 Rules reflect how ICC arbitration continues to adapt to changing times and party requirements, advancing procedural proportionality and giving parties a broader range of procedural pathways calibrated to the value, complexity and urgency of their disputes. For Indian businesses, which continue to rank among the most frequent users of ICC arbitration globally, these developments are particularly significant. They provide parties with a wider range of procedural tools and create new pathways for obtaining high-quality, scrutinised awards within significantly shorter timeframes. A significant change is the abolition of mandatory Terms of Reference (ToR), although arbitral tribunals still retain the discretion to establish them, where appropriate, as a useful case management tool. The ToR is a jointly-signed document establishing the parties’ claims, issues in dispute and procedural framework. While it continued to be helpful in practice, the process often required extensions up to a further 30 days, to allow for meaningful consultation between the tribunal and the parties. If a party refused to take part in drawing up the ToR or signing it, the ToR would be submitted to the ICC Court for approval.
