HON’BLE MS. JUSTICE Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora was born to a business family in the year 1974. She was raised and educated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She attended Mount Carmel High School upto Class Xth and thereafter completed her schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall in the year 1991.

In the year 1994, she graduated from H.L. College of Commerce, Gujarat University with a B. Com degree. She obtained her LL.B. degree in the year 1997 from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Gujarat University.

After completing her education, she moved to Delhi and enrolled as an Advocate with Bar Council of Delhi in 1997.

She practised as an independent litigator and appeared regularly before the High Court of Delhi. She worked extensively in the areas of civil litigation, commercial disputes, company law, arbitrations and thus, practised on the original side of the High Court. She also handled matters relating to administrative law.

She appeared before the Supreme Court, different High Courts, National Company Law Tribunal, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, arbitrations and other civil courts as well.

During 25 years at the Bar, she has been appointed as Sole Arbitrator, Amicus Curiae and Court Commissioner from time to time by the High Court of Delhi. She has been an external member of the sexual harassment committees of various organisations.

She was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the High Court of Delhi on 18.05.2022.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice JR Midha

Justice J.R. Midha served as a Judge of Delhi High Court from 11th April, 2008 to 7th July, 2021. As a Judge, he presided over several jurisdictions including Judge-in-Charge of Original side of Delhi High Court. He also headed a Division Bench hearing Criminal Appeals involving life and death sentence references.

Justice Midha served as the Chairperson of Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC). During his tenure, various new initiatives were successfully undertaken, namely: framing of Rules for Empanelment of Arbitrators; Empanelment of Arbitrators under the new Rules; stage wise disbursal of Fees to the Arbitrators; improved Website of DIAC with added features; Audio-visual tour of DIAC on the Website; release of first issue of DIAC Journal of Arbitration; and Guidelines for arbitration proceedings by video conference during pandemic.

Justice Midha also served as the Chairperson of Judicial Education and Training Programme Committee of High Court of Delhi and supervised the training of Judges at Delhi Judicial Academy. During his tenure, the Good Practices arising out of the judgments of Delhi High Court were uploaded on the Website of Delhi Judicial Academy. Justice Midha also served as a Member of the Sub-Committee of the Supreme Court on use of Artificial Intelligence in MACT cases.

Justice Midha served as a Member of the Advisory Board of Conservation of Foreign Exchange & Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA) in 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021. He presided over the Tribunal under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 to examine the ban on the activities of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in 2012.

As a Judge, Justice Midha actively initiated judicial reforms in various jurisdictions namely, Arbitration, Motor Accident Claims, Execution Cases, Maintenance in Matrimonial Cases, Compensation to Victims of Crime, Prosecution for False Claims, Prosecution of Proclaimed Offenders, etc.

Before elevation, Justice Midha practiced Law for 26 years (1982 to 2008) before various Courts including Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and other High Courts. He also appeared as a Counsel before the Arbitrators/Arbitral Tribunals. He represented Govt. of NCT of Delhi as Standing Counsel (Civil) before the High Court of Delhi from May, 2006 until elevation as a Judge in April, 2008.

Justice Midha taught Law at Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, Delhi University from 1989 to 1992 and taught various subjects including Code of Civil Procedure, Indian Evidence Act, Transfer of Property Act, Delhi Rent Control Act, Limitation Act, Arbitration Act, Motor Vehicles Act, Court Fees Act, Suit Valuation Act, Indian Registration Act, and Indian Stamp Act. He authored and compiled the synopsis and case material on the subjects of “Pleading and Conveyancing” and “Motor Accident Compensation” for Campus Law Centre. While teaching, he organized a Lok Adalat for Motor Accidents Cases in Campus Law Centre in 1991 in which the compensation was computed by Law students and the computation was submitted to the Lok Adalat Judges in advance to assist the claimants in obtaining fair compensation. Even after elevation to the Bench, he continued to visit various law schools to deliver guest lectures. He had been a resource person for training of Judges in National Judicial Academy as well as State Judicial Academies.

Justice Midha has written three books namely, Amendments to Code of Civil Procedure in 2002, Motor Accident Claims Referencer - First Edition in 2011 and Motor Accident Claims Referencer - Second Edition in 2012.

DR. LALIT BHASIN

Dr. Lalit Bhasin started his law practice in 1962 and has developed Bhasin & Co. as one of the largest law Firms in North India. His areas of specialisation include Employment & Labour Laws, Corporate Law, Laws relating to Information Technology, Contract and Conveyancing, Constitutional Law, Banking and Finance, Consumer Protection Laws, Disputes relating to Foreign Investment e.g. Shareholders Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, Agency and Distribution Agreements, Technology Transfer Agreements and Dispute Resolution Practice.

He was awarded Honorary Membership of the IBA in Melbourne in 1994 for outstanding service to the legal profession. He was awarded the Plaque of Honour by the Prime Minister of India in 2002 for outstanding contribution to the Rule of Law. In 2007, the President of India presented the National Law Day Award to Lalit Bhasin for "Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Legal Profession in India and for his deep involvement and engagement in the maintenance of the highest standards at the Bar".

Recently he has been conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D) Honoris Causa by University of Rajasthan.

PROF. (DR.) GS BAJPAI

He serves as the Vice Chancellor of National Law University Delhi. He is equipped with more than thirty years of professional experience as an author, researcher, teacher and administrator. In addition to a Master’s specialisation in Criminology & Criminal Justice, he holds a doctorate in victimology and a post-doctorate in criminal justice from Leicester University, U.K., as a Commonwealth Fellow at the Department of Criminology, Leicester University, U.K.

Prof. Bajpai has authored twenty-two books/monographs, more than sixty papers, over a hundred op-eds in leading dailies like Indian Express, the Hindu, and the Tribune and thirteen project reports.

Notably, Prof. Bajpai is credited with having evolved the concept of 'wrongful prosecution' in the Indian context. Based on his report on the Babloo Chauhan case, the Law Commission, in its 277th Report, proposed amendments to laws to help the victims of wrongful prosecution. His report in the case of Karan v. State also introduced the concept of a "Victim Impact Report" and the procedure for calculating and granting compensation under section 357 of the Cr.P.C.

Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur

Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur is the Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune and Dean, Faculty of Law, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune (SIU). She is a distinguished academician and orator having presented more than 325 invited lectures, workshops and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE.

She has an outstanding career with a wide range of experience in teaching, research and industry and is continuing with Symbiosis Law School since 2007. She is a pioneer of EU Legal Studies in India.

Prof. Devi Singh

Dr. Devi Singh is recognised as one of the top academic leaders in India who has created and transformed institutions of higher learning. He was the Director of the Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) for ten and half years. He is a well-known Professor of International Finance & Management. IIM-L took major strides and made all around progress under his dynamic leadership. IIM-L is today counted as one of the top IIMs in India. Before joining IIM-L, he was the Director of Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, for four and half years.

Prior to MDI, Dr. Singh was a Visiting Full Professor at the Faculty of Management, McGill University, Canada for five years. He has been a Ford Foundation and UNDP Fellow (International Management Education). He has also been a Visiting Faculty at the International Centre for Public Enterprises-Slovenia, ESCP-Europe, SKK Graduate School of Business-Seoul, and Kelly School of Business-Indiana. Dr. Singh is an alumnus fellow of the Institute of World Affairs-Connecticut. He has also taught at leading business schools in India.

Dr. Singh has published and presented research papers at various national/international journals/conferences. He has authored three books in Finance and Management and has also been a consultant to leading Indian and multinational organisations in India. He is in several policy level committees of the Government of India like All India Council for Technical Education, Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ph.D.CCI), Standing Committee on Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and All India Management Association (AIMA). He has been a member of Boards/Executive Councils of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, NITTIE, Mumbai, Ambedkar University, Lucknow, Jamia Islamia University, New Delhi, Tejpur University, University of Allahabad and two new Central Universities. He has also been a mentor and Founder Director of IIM-Rohtak and IIM-Kashipur.

Dr. Singh has served as a member of the RBI’s Appointments Board for two years. He was also a member of the UPSC Committee Constituted for Designing CSAT. He was on the Board of India Fulbright for two years and has recently been nominated on the International Accreditation Advisory Board of Association of MBAs for three years. He is also a member of the Nomination Committee of AACSB. Dr. Singh has been the President of the Association of Indian Management Schools, and a member of the All India Board of Management Studies of AICTE for six years. He served on many corporate boards and is currently on the Board of Governors of some of the leading public and private sector companies. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Singh has established himself as a leader in academia in the country. He holds a Ph.D. in International Finance from IIM-Ahmedabad.

Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul

Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Paul is the Registrar, Professor of Law and Director of Centre for ADR at NLU, Delhi. She has previously taught at NALSAR, Hyderabad. She was awarded the Research Fellowship at Asian Law Institute (ASLI), National University Singapore and has completed her Ph.D. from NALSAR, Hyderabad. A trained mediator and certified arbitrator, she has presented several research papers in various national and international conferences, also conducted workshops on ADR for both students and teachers. She was invited by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Mediation Bill 2021 to offer her opinion. She was invited to offer comments/suggestions for World Bank Group’s new initiative ‘Business Enabling Environment’ with respect to dispute resolution. She is also often invited to deliver lectures on ADR methods to Judicial Academy and to Government Departments.

Deepak Gupta

Deepak is a practising business lawyer with over 40 years of experience in manufacturing, services, finance and banking, and consulting.

He is a post graduate in law, enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi, and a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Deepak played a pioneering role in establishing laws and policies for the IT/ITES industry. Before American Express, Deepak was Head of Legal, Company Secretary and GM Corporate Affairs at Jay Engineering-India’s leading consumer goods’ manufacturing (USHA brand) listed entity of the Shriram Group having manufacturing operations in Calcutta, Hyderabad and Agra and pan-India marketing network.

Deepak closely works with Government, regulators and industry associations in representing industry concerns and has been an expert advisor to the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He is a member of the CII- IR Committee for last several years.

C.V. Raghu

Mr. C. V. Raghu was the Group General Counsel (Global Role), Motherson Group. He drove the Legal, Secretarial, Regulatory, Compliance and Governance processes across the globe for the Group. While he has demitted office in order to pursue his profession and other passions in life, he continues to support the Group as a Group Legal advisor in a non-exclusive, consultative and advisory capacity. Apart from Motherson Group Mr. Raghu is providing his advisory services to various other companies and serves as Independent Director/ Non-Executive Director on Board of various companies.

Mr. Raghu is the President and Founding member of the General Counsel’s Association of India (“GCAI”). He has been advocating the cause of statutory recognition of the Role of General Counsels and aims to work towards achieving this objective.

He is a qualified lawyer from Delhi University, a diploma holder in Industrial Relations & Personnel Management from Sardar Patel College of Communication & Management and a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). Nandita Khurana

Nandita has over three and a half decades of experience as a legal practitioner. The experience Nandita has gathered over the years as a legal professional has been with focus on multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary matters. While during her early years in the legal profession, Nandita counseled various domestic as well as foreign multinational corporations on varied aspects of corporate & commercial transactions involving disciplines such as intellectual property, M&A, real estate, taxation, technology and licensing, etc., she also led a Fortune 500 company for over 14 years, as the Regional General Counsel & Policy Head. Richa Singh

With over 19 years of experience, Richa Singh is the General Counsel for Medanta Hospitals. Prior to joining Medanta Group, Richa was engaged with Amarchand Mangaldas Suresh & Shroff in its Delhi office. Currently at Medanta, she is part of the senior leadership team and carries expertise in Corporate Affairs and Contract Management, advisory to the Board and Senior Management, Regulatory and Policy Affairs, Risk Mitigation and Litigation Management, Intellectual Property Management and Protection. Richa has substantial experience of structuring, drafting, negotiating and closing complex commercial transactions across various business verticals in a complex regulatory landscape. Expert in general corporate, joint ventures, acquisitions, employment and real estate matters, her approach is focused on protecting and balancing legal, compliance and governance aspects in any transaction while enabling the business and commercial objectives. Bharat Chugh

Bharat Chugh is a practicing advocate who made history in 2011 by securing the 1st rank in Delhi Judicial Services at the age of just 23. He joined practice in 2016 and has since then gone onto become a social media sensation for his professional achievements and words of guidance and wisdom for the young in the fraternity. He worked with Luthra & Luthra initially and then went onto establishing his own Chambers under his name. He is a member of Young Singapore International Arbitration Centre (YSIAC) steering committee. SUHASINI RAO

Suhasini Rao is an attorney with 17+ years of PQE across jurisdictions in public law & policy, corporate governance, and legal-tech & edu-tech products. She is also the Founder-Director of CubeRoute Advisors Private Limited, a boutique consulting firm with an interdisciplinary approach to better governance and business management solutions.

She began her career practising at the Jaipur High Court before moving into the corporate sector. After working for a couple of years in India, she earned a Masters’ degree in International Criminal Law with the United Nations, Italy. Thereafter, she was with the Iringa University College in Tanzania and headed the Department of Student Affairs. As a member of the Law Faculty, she taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in International Law and ethical legal practice. Suhasini is a Master Trainer, with over a decade of experience in legal and regulatory interventions for public sector and corporate leadership, employees as well as the members of various committees of organisations. She is a guest lecturer at the V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida and the Central Bureau of Investigation Academy (Economic Offences), Ghaziabad. She is an editor with publishing houses and law firms, focusing on law and law-related publications, and frequently writes on a variety of law-centric subjects in newspapers, magazines and online fora.

Meera Chature Sankhari

Suvrojyoti Gupta

Prof. Gupta is a Associate Professor at JGLS. He completed his first degree in law from the NUJS, Kolkata in May 2006. Between 2006-2009, he practised as an appellate litigator, primarily based in the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi. During this time, he was attached to the Chambers of Ms. Meenakshi Arora, Advocate on Record and Standing Counsel of the Election Commission of India and he worked closely with the Election Commission of India in sensitive matters like the challenge to the Delimitation Act, expulsion of MPs, Office of Profit Bill, among others. He has appeared as a junior counsel and was connected with all stages of many high-profile matters before the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi.

His practice areas included commercial litigation, arbitration, constitutional and criminal law. Between 2009-2010 Mr. Gupta has successfully completed his LL.M. in International Business Law from the National University of Singapore. During his college days Mr. Gupta was one of the student editors of his University’s law Journal Indian Juridical Review. He contributed a number of articles in publications like Indian Bar Review, Journal of Intellectual Property and Criminal Law Journal. His research interests include commercial law, arbitration, international trade law, constitutional and legal regulation of emerging technologies.
